Financial Responsibility Growing up in the rural south and being a wife and mother of 4 children, I know how to stretch a dollar. Every financial decision Bob and I made was deliberative. Providing the needed essentials for our children was more important than new cars, the latest gadget, or fashion. We gave our children a good work ethic and taught them to know the difference between want and need. This mindset is often lost in government. It is paramount that elected officials recognize and understand the sacrifices being made by taxpayers and strive for effective and efficient use of tax dollars. Every dollar, in a budget presented by Mayor Nancy Denson, will have to pass my test: Is this expenditure meeting a critical need for our citizens, and is it a proper expenditure of tax dollars?
As your Tax Commissioner for the past 26 years, I understand how increasing taxes and declining resources impact our citizens. As Mayor, I will continue to practice the good stewardship that has made our tax office among the most effective and respected in the state. I will work to ensure waste reduction and maximize efficiencies to provide needed services that will maximize the quality of life for current and future citizens.
